Crib Envy

Look at this amazingly beautiful, simple, sustainable crib. Handmade in Boise. Boise, for goodness sake! I am over the moon simply that this exists.

And is offered in six gorgeous finishes! *swoon*

Equalizer Crib

The equalizer design, with its subtle reference to stereo components, edges out the modernist momma staple Oeuf in my mind.

Oeuf crib in classic walnut.

And, while both are made from "low emissions MDF," Etsy craftshop EcoAyris is located in the heartland. Oeuf is an NYC-based design house, sure; but its furniture is manufactured in Europe. Which means shipping. Carbon footprint, anyone?

Who am I kidding? I just really love this design. And the price point of $850, while out of our range (especially when buying two-by-two,) is respectable for modern nursery furniture. More so for such a small shop. It definitely compares favorably with the Oeuf, which ranges from $690 for the basic model to $920 for the model above.

The last time I was in the Buy Buy Baby in Rockville, cribs were on clearance for more that that. Overwrought, cherry finish, sleigh bed-style cribs with floor model scratches.

Now, I do not expect that any of the half-dozen people reading this (and I may be flattering myself here) are going to click the link above and order an Equalizer; but I had to share.

For those faithful few who may still be with me, know this EcoAyris makes mindblowingly cool wooden teethers. No joke. Hip references that are not brick-to-the head like all those toddlers in dresses repurposed from Ramones t-shirts. So you can go get some goodness for your next baby shower gift for under $20.

You haven't a name and yet, all the same, I think I love you.

Plastic wheeled giraffes, origins unknown.

The grinning swell of positive energy these twin orphan giraffes generate every time I they espy is tremendous.

I found them at the local thrift store and fell immediately in love. That there were two made them all the more perfect (to bring home to my twin daughters.)

Their mod geometry kills me; as do the happy orange bodies and high contrast blue wheels. Wheeled giraffes!

Look at those eyes. They are stickers; but there is not fading or peeling. The proportions --eye to face and pupil to eye-- are perfect.

See the sly, shy smile? It is not colored in. There is no need. Subtlety.

Likewise, see the swish of a tail stamped in the backside. No flies! Super-fly!

My effusiveness over these objects quirk was redoubled when the cashier apologized, but they were differently priced: $0.99 and $1.41.

I could only guess that was because one bore four all caps initials in black marker on its underside.

Those, however, were the only discernible markings. I cannot locate a manufacturer's stamp.

The only other information their undersides betray came in the form of small holes and long plastic tabs, perhaps used to connect them (and other wheeled animals?) These have since been discarded.
